The Fermanagh Association Belfast held a very successful launch of their Raceday 2003 event in the Ashberry Hotel last Thursday night. The Association’s Chairman, Peter O’Reilly, gave a brief account of the background and history of the Association to date whilst the Vice-Chairman, Phil Sheridan, outlined the dissemination of funds raised over the past year. Phil also outlined to those present the arrangements the Fermanagh Association have made with the county’s Liaison Officer, Peter Carty, how funds should be allocated to the county teams. He also outlined that the funds donated were to be the ‘icing on the cake’ in that they were to meet expenditure which came over and above that which is the responsibility of the County Board. It was widely agreed that the donated funds had and would continue to provide those extras that were already making a difference to Fermanagh county players.
Seamus Leonard, Assistant Secretary of the Association, then outlined the plans for this year’s Raceday at Down Royal. He emphasised the merits of the raceday package and outlined the many valuable prizes which were on offer including a family holiday in France, a trip to New York, a week-end at the Rose of Tralee Festival, All-Ireland tickets and so on.
Seamus encouraged the people of Fermanagh to support this year’s event and reminded them that their support would find its way back into Fermanagh GAA.
At the end of the evening the Liaison Officer thanked the Fermanagh Association in Belfast for their support and accepted a cheque for £15 000.
